Mr Safo Nketia, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi East Municipality of the Oti Region, has announced plans to transform Dambai township.
The MCE told the media that the Dambai bridge will connect Abongo and Dream Village, while a new fish market would be behind Dream Village to boost trade and social ties.
Additionally, Mr Nketia said a military barracks would be located on the Monkrati route, opening up both East and West sides of Dambai.
He emphasized that these projects would open up the town, encouraging development, investment and making Dambai a hub, attracting growth and transforming the Oti Regional capital.
The MCE explained that the bridge project was part of the government’s $10 billion Big Push Agenda, aiming to boost economic growth and improve regional access.
In an interview with the media, he said the engineers and contractors initially considered two routes, the main route down to pontoon landing site and an alternative route along Dambai Community-One through the late Francis Kofi Okesu’s street.
According to him, the alternative route was chosen to avoid demolishing structures and relocating ferry and boat operators by reducing costs.
He stated that the decision was made based on contractors and engineers findings, prioritizing a smother and more cost-effective implementation.
