The Vice President, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has joined the Member of Parliament (MP) of Krachi West constituency, Madam Helen Adwoa Ntoso, to commission a modern community durbar centre at Kete-Krachi in the Oti Region.

The facility, named the Adom Kwafo Community Centre, is a legacy project by the MP aimed at strengthening community engagement and providing a permanent venue for social, cultural, and civic activities.

The commissioning formed part of the Vice President’s two-day working visit to the region, during which she is expected to interact with survivors of the recent Okumah boat accident and assess ongoing recovery and support interventions.

The visit also included engagements with government officials, traditional authorities, and participation in activities marking the 25th anniversary of the enstoolment of Nana Mprah Besemuna III, Paramount Chief and President of the Krachi Traditional Area.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Madam Ntoso underscored the significance of the project, noting that the absence of a permanent durbar ground had long posed challenges for the community.

She said residents previously relied on rented canopies and temporary structures for public events, a situation she described as unsustainable.

“The Adom Kwafo Community Centre will serve as a reliable space for community programmes, traditional gatherings and other important events,” she stated, urging traditional leaders and residents to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.

Nana Mprah Besemuna commended the MP for what he described as a timely and impactful intervention, noting that the centre would enhance the organisation of major community events and social functions.

He expressed appreciation that the project coincided with the celebration of his 25 years of leadership, describing it as a significant milestone for the traditional area.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Krachi West, Mr Prosper Addo, lauded the initiative, stating that the facility would promote social cohesion and contribute to the overall development of the municipality.

He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster unity and improve the quality of life of residents.

The commissioning of the Adom Kwafo Community Centre is expected to serve as a catalyst for strengthened communal ties and enhanced socio-cultural activities within the Krachi West Municipality.
