The Kingmakers of the Poasi New Takoradi Akona Royal Family have affirmed Nana Assafuah Kuma IV as the recognised chief of the community.
They have, therefore, urged residents to reject attempts by any group within the community or family to enstool another chief.
Abusuapanyin Kojo Mensah of the Royal Family, together with the kinsmen and members of the Poasi Oman Committee, made the assertion at a community durbar on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
They stated that Nana Assafuah Kuma IV, was duly enstooled in 2020 and that the “community is fully aware of a duly enstooled chief for the community since 2020.”
According to them, on July 25, 2020, the Poasi Akona Royal Stool Family, led by Ebusuapanyin Kojo Mensah and the Elders-in-Council, appointed Mr Bentil Appiah-Kubi to be enstooled as Nana Assafuah Kuma IV.
They said the enstoolment was subsequently performed by Safohen Kweku Essuon and the Asofo Company.
They said the particulars of Nana Assafuah Kuma IV were subsequently submitted to the Sekondi Traditional Council for the necessary processes.
The group alleged that on Sunday, September 13, 2026, some people claiming to belong to the Poasi Akona Royal Stool Family entered the Poasi Palace unannounced, accompanied by armed men, and attempted to enstool another chief.
It said the development created tension and confusion among residents, particularly women, children and the elderly.
Mr Samuel Amissah, Secretary to the Poasi Oman Committee, appealed to all stakeholders to help preserve peace in the Poasi-New Takoradi community.
The Committee expressed appreciation to Mr Joseph Nelson, Western Regional Minister, and the Western Regional Police Command for their intervention, which it said helped restore calm to the community.
It maintained that the Poasi community already had a duly enstooled chief, Nana Assafuah Kuma IV, and that there was, therefore, no need for another person to present himself as chief.
Mr Amissah appealed to Nana Kobena Nketsia V, President of the Western Regional House of Chiefs, the Sekondi Traditional Council, the Regional Security Council and other stakeholders to work together to address the situation before it escalated.
The Committee also appealed to the security agencies and traditional authorities to continue monitoring developments in the community and take appropriate steps to prevent a recurrence.
It reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability in Poasi-New Takoradi and called on residents to remain calm while the relevant authorities addressed the matter.
