Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister, has assured the chiefs of the Dorimon Traditional Area of the government’s commitment to completing and converting the Community Day Senior High School (E-Block) into a full boarding facility.
He explained that the Ministry of Education had reviewed the Community Day School concept and repackaged the E-Block model to include dormitories, dining halls and other essential facilities to enable the schools operate as boarding institutions.
The Regional Minister gave the assurance during a courtesy call on the Dorimon Traditional Council as part of his tour of all paramountcies in the Upper West Region.
That followed an appeal by Naa Alhaji Seidu Tungbani Salinbile II, the Paramount Chief of the Dorimon Traditional Area, to the government to complete and operationalise the school to enhance access to secondary education.
In response, the Upper West Regional Minister said: “The current Minister of Education has realised that the Day School system is not helping.
“So, the ministry has repackaged the E-Block to include dormitories, dining halls and other facilities so that it will be a full boarding school.”
The Minister added that the government intended to convert all the E-Blocks in Ghana into boarding schools with all the necessary amenities.
The Dorimon E-Block facility was constructed and roofed in 2016 but has not finished to be operationalised.
Mr Puozuing, however, encouraged the traditional authorities to consider converting the facility into a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institute.
He said that would help promote practical skills development and increased employment prospects for the youth.
On roads, the Minister indicated that the Wa-Dorimon-Wechiau-Ga road remained a priority for the government.
He indicated that the Minister of Roads and Highways had repackaged the project for re-award to different contractors to ensure its completion.
He said the Wa West District Assembly would also deploy equipment under the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP) to reshape feeder roads across the district.
Touching on health, Mr Puozuing said President John Dramani Mahama had earmarked the completion of the Agenda 111 Hospital project at Wechiau, the Wa West District capital, before the end of his tenure.
Naa Salinbile appealed to the Minister to facilitate the upgrading of the Dorimon Health Centre into a polyclinic to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
He noted that the residents of the traditional area currently travelled long distances to Wa or Wechiau to access referral services.
The chief commended the NDC-led government for development interventions in the area, which he said had improved infrastructure and social services.
