Enforce sanitation bye-laws to change people’s bad attitude-NADMO to MDAs

Mr Yusif Ibrahim, the Officer in-Charge of Operations at the Bono Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) at the weekend urged Municipal and District Assemblies (MDAs) to strictly enforce sanitation bye-laws.
He said strict enforcement of the bye-laws remained the surest way to change people’s bad attitude towards sanitation and the environment.
He said until the MDAs enforced their sanitation bye-laws it would be difficult to promote environmental sanitation and keep cities, towns and communities clean and to prevent communicable diseases.

Mr Ibrahim, popularly known as “Ben Kluvi” made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a clean-up exercise in Sunyani, organised by the Municipal Assembly.
He bemoaned the poor attitude of the people towards sanitation manifested in the indiscriminate littering and dumping of plastic waste in the municipality, saying that enforcement of the sanitation bye-law would change people’s attitude.
Mr Ibrahim said proper waste management and sanitation could prevent flooding, and warned traders, shop owners, and hawkers to desist from littering around the Sunyani Central Business District.
“The Assembly must ensure that the sanitation bye-law deals with offenders, regardless of their political affiliation,” he advised.
Mr Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, led departmental heads, traders, market women, assembly members and security services to pick plastic materials, cleared choked gutters, and later evacuated a heap of refuse at the Nana Bosoma Central Market.
