Fire has gutted a dormitory block at the Northern School of Business Senior High School (NOBISCO) in Tamale, displacing about 900 students and destroying their personal belongings.
The fire, which started at about 1400 hours on Wednesday, ravaged the dormitory block and burnt students’ mattresses, books, clothes and other personal items into ashes.
Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I (ADO I), Mr Hudu Baba, Public Relations Officer, Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Northern Region, said personnel of the Service responded swiftly, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already engulfed the entire dormitory block.
He said the firefighters managed to bring the fire under control to prevent it from spreading to other school facilities.

ADO1 Mr Baba noted that the cause of the fire was not immediately known, adding that investigations had been launched to determine the origin of the blaze.
Meanwhile, Mr Ali Adolf John, Northern Regional Minister, in collaboration with the authorities of the school, has directed the affected students to go home for one week as measures were put in place to facilitate their return.
He said final-year students affected by the fire should be temporarily accommodated in other dormitory blocks to enable them to continue their academic activities as efforts were being made to address the situation.
