NADMO records 48 disaster cases in Bono East in 2025

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) recorded 48 disaster incidents in the Bono East Region in 2025, largely between the second and third quarters.

The incidents comprised rainstorms, windstorms, bushfires, domestic fires and conflicts. No cases were recorded in the first and fourth quarters of 2025, though two fire-related casualties were reported in the first week of 2026.

Mr Akwesi Lampo, Bono East Regional Director of NADMO, told the Ghana News Agency in Techiman that the disasters destroyed three farms and a school at Yeji in the Pru East District and razed two houses at Dagomba Line in the Techiman Metropolis.

He said NADMO had intensified prevention efforts through the training and deployment of fire volunteer groups and public education via radio and community outreach. The organisation is also working with chiefs and opinion leaders to enforce environmental protection bylaws.

Mr Lampo noted that Atebubu-Amantin, Pru East and West, and Kintampo North and South record high bushfire incidents and urged residents to safeguard lives and property.

He said relief items received were insufficient to meet the growing needs and appealed for additional support.

The Regional Director cautioned farmers against cooking on farms and advised them to seek approval and assistance from fire volunteers before burning. He also warned Fulani herdsmen to desist from burning bushes to regenerate pasture, describing the practice as dangerous.
