The Techiman Metropolis is reaping the benefits of President John Mahama’s first year in office, according to Mr Kwaku Agyei Mensah, Mayor of the Techiman Metropolitan Assembly.
He said the metropolis has seen significant improvements in livelihood conditions and many achievements due to the increase of the Common Fund allocation from GH¢1.6 million to GH¢4 million.
He mentioned that the Assembly recently received GH¢12 million, an accumulation of three quarters of the Common Fund, to enable the Assembly to undertake various development projects.
The projects include the construction of a six-unit classroom block at a cost of GH¢1.7million Community-based Health Planning and Services Compound GH¢2.2 million and a five kiilometre (Km) feeder road with culverts at a cost of GH¢ 3.3 million leading to the major refuse dumping site at Fiaso.
Additionally, 10 mechanised boreholes have been drilled for potable water at a cost of GH¢1m, he said, stressing that the Assembly is also using 25 percent of the Common Fund to build a 24-hour economy and 10 percent for furniture procurement.
Mr. Mensah announced that the Ohene Ameyaw Akumfi park has been renovated with a conference hall, dressing room, and office to promote recreation and sports.
The Mayor urged the chiefs and people to support government initiatives to improve socio-economic development in the area.
