SEGUM equips 41 content creators to advance digital evangelism

The South East Ghana Union Mission (SEGUM) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church has organised its maiden Communication Content Creators Summit to equip church communicators with digital skills to advance evangelism and strengthen the Church’s online presence.

The four-day summit, held at the Valley View University Women’s Centre at Oyibi, brought together 41 participants from the Union’s six constituent fields for practical training in digital storytelling, content creation, visual communication, social media ethics and strategic online evangelism.

The summit formed part of SEGUM’s contribution to the Church’s OneVoice27 initiative, which seeks to mobilise content creators to share Christ-centred messages across digital platforms in preparation for 2027 and beyond.

A statement issued by the Communications Department of SEGUM to the Ghana News Agency said the initiative, guided by the theme: “Your Voice; His Mission,” encouraged church communicators to use their creativity and digital influence to proclaim the gospel, reach new audiences and inspire engagement with the Christian faith.

It said participants were drawn from the Meridian Ghana Conference, Volta Ghana Mission, Oti Ghana Mission, Diamond Field Ghana Conference, Eastern View Ghana Conference and East Ghana Conference.

According to the statement, the training combined expert presentations with practical exercises to equip participants with the skills required to produce engaging and mission-focused digital content.

It said Dr Solace Yawa Asafo, Communication Director of the Southwest Ghana Union Conference, facilitated sessions on digital citizenship, social media ethics and responsible online communication, while Elder Oswald Agyei-Boateng led discussions on brand positioning and the development of a recognisable digital identity.

Participants also practised adapting a single gospel message into different formats for various social media platforms and took part in a 60-second Jesus-story challenge aimed at sharpening their storytelling skills.

The statement said the third day focused on visual storytelling and media production, with photographer and videographer Martin Nathan and Mr Samuel Agyei Nyarko, Digital Evangelism Coordinator of the Southwest Ghana Union Conference, facilitating sessions on mobile photography, lighting, framing, B-roll footage, flyer design and storyboard development.

Mr James Okyere, a digital content creator and editor, also facilitated practical mobile videography sessions during which participants worked in teams to plan, shoot and produce short gospel stories.

The statement said the final day centred on video editing, content development and digital distribution strategies.

Participants received practical instruction in mobile editing applications, including CapCut, VN and Canva Video, to enhance their digital content production skills.

A 12-month content calendar was introduced to guide content development and distribution up to September 2027, while team-based production challenges and peer-review sessions enabled participants to improve the quality and effectiveness of their work.

The summit culminated in a commissioning, commitment and consecration ceremony co-officiated by Pastor Dr Nathan Teye Odonkor, Executive Secretary of SEGUM, Pastor Peter Agyekum, Evangelism Director, and Pastor Dr Samuel K. Dorgbetor, Communication Director.

The statement said participants were challenged to apply the knowledge and skills acquired to strengthen digital evangelism, support local church communication initiatives and build a coordinated network of mission-focused content creators.

It said the commissioning underscored the importance of digital communication as a ministry through which the Church could share hope, communicate biblical truths and reach people who might not otherwise encounter its message.

The summit formed part of SEGUM’s efforts to establish a coordinated approach to digital communication and evangelism across its six constituent fields.

The statement said by equipping communicators with practical production skills, ethical communication principles and strategic content development frameworks, the Union sought to promote collaboration among communication teams, local churches and individual content creators as the Church prepares for the wider implementation of OneVoice27.
