Dormaa West assures prudent utilization of DACF for impactful development

Mr Stephen Azorba Awuni, the Dormaa West District Chief Executive (DCE) in the Bono Region has assured the judicious utilization of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for development purposes.
He said the Assembly was utilizing the DACF prudently, saying that it would continue to do so for impactful development across the sectors of the economy.
Mr Awuni said the Assembly received GHC9,021,729.54 of the DACF in 2025 which was a significant increase over the previous allocations, describing the increment as major fiscal expansion to support local governance and accelerated development.
“The increase demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening decentralised governance and improving service delivery at the district level”, Mr Awuni stated, when speaking at the “Accounting to the People” series at Nkrankwanta.
It offered the opportunity for the assembly to account to the people and thereby promote transparency and participatory governance.
Mr Awuni said the Assembly was collaborating with the District Health Directorate to improve access to healthcare and sanitation services, and assured the completion of the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound project at Dormaa Agogo.
He said the assembly had prioritised education infrastructure, constructing a three-unit classroom block at Appiakrom, a six-unit classroom block at Addokrom and a kindergarten block at Nnobem to enhance effective teaching and learning.
Mr Awuni said sod cutting ceremony had been held for the construction of an 80-unit district housing project in the area aimed at addressing accommodation challenges, particularly among public sector workers and essential service providers.
He said the Nkrankwanta-Dormaa-Ahenkro road project had been awarded on contract with construction work progressing, saying that road project was expected to be completed within 18 months to improve transportation, business growth and economic development.
Mr Awuni said the Assembly had distributed 20,000 coconut seedlings to farmers across the district, and through the Business Advisory Centre (BAC), 84 goats were distributed to 42 livestock farmers.
About 10,000 chicks had also been supplied to farmers under the Nkoko Nketenkete programme, he stated.

Mr Awuni said youth empowerment initiatives were also on-going, saying that employable skills training, entrepreneurship support and government-led employment programmes were being implemented to promote economic independence of the youth.
He said a total of 204 youth had been trained and enrolled under various modules through the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), saying that the Assembly had collaborated with security agencies to sustain the prevailing peace and security.
Mr Awuni mentioned inadequate infrastructure, constraints in revenue mobilisation and limited logistics for effective supervision as some of the challenges confronting the assembly, however added that the Assembly remained dedicated to tackling those challenges through strategic interventions and stakeholder collaboration.
Mr Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister commended the district for implementing those laudable initiatives towards enhancing the socio-economic livelihoods of the people.
