Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, has disclosed that more than 20 communities in the constituency are expected to benefit from the Government’s Turnkey Electrification Project under the Rural Electricity Acceleration and Urban Intensification Initiative (REIP).
The project, which is expected to connect 206 communities across the 18 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region to the national electricity grid, is scheduled for completion within six months.
Mr Agbana disclosed this at Dekpor during the 50 Edition edition of his Quarterly Accountability Series in the Ketu North Constituency on Sunday.
He said following the launch of the project by the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, he had engaged the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to consider additional communities that were not captured under the initial project.
“About 20 communities in Ketu North will benefit from the 206 communities earmarked for the Region. I have also pleaded with ECG to add another 30 communities to the programme,” he said.
Mr Agbana said communities, including Ehi-Dziehegbleta and others, were expected to be connected to the national grid under the ongoing electrification programme.
He said poles and electrical cables had already been delivered to Dzodze-Deme and that the community was expected to be connected to the national electricity grid within the week.
Mr Agbana said the connection would bring electricity to households and businesses in the community and improve socio-economic activities in the area.
He said his target was to see at least 60 additional communities in the constituency connected to electricity by 2028, describing access to reliable electricity as critical to improving livelihoods and accelerating development.
The MP said the electrification programme would help improve economic activities, education, healthcare and other essential services in beneficiary communities.
He said the Government’s decision to prioritise underserved communities demonstrated its commitment to expanding electricity access and ensuring that rural communities benefited from national development programmes.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, in collaboration with the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, launched the Turnkey Electrification Project in Ho on Friday.
The project, being executed by Byes and Ways Limited, will extend electricity supply to 206 communities across all 18 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region and is expected to be completed within six months.
