The Makam Plant Hire (MPH), the contractor working on the Axim Sea defense, has pledged to work assiduously to complete the project to meet the 18-month specified deadline.

Mr Benjamin Amissah, Project Engineer for MPH, made the pledge when Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, toured the project site to inspect progress of work so far.

Mr Amissah stated that despite earlier challenges on the project, work was now about 45 per cent complete, and that the construction firm would do everything in its capacity to ensure timely completion of the project.

The second phase of the project is to protect the property and livelihoods of residents in Axim, and includes a 550-meter breakwater, sea defenses, and a safe base for fishing activities.

Work commenced on the project in 2024, but was halted due to technical and financial challenges before resuming earlier this year.

According to the Project Engineer, the project would feature eleven culverts designed to solve the chronic flooding and address the poor drainage system in the area.

Mr Nelson commended the contractor for the progress achieved so far, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the project’s completion.
