Football lovers in the Krachi East Municipality have expressed disappointment and frustration over the Black Stars’ elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with many questioning the decision to start skipper Jordan Ayew in Ghana’s Round of 32 encounter against Colombia.
The Black Stars’ World Cup journey came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia, a result that shattered the hopes of millions of Ghanaians who had anticipated a place in the Round of 16.
In interviews with football enthusiasts in Dambai, many supporters argued that younger and more energetic players should have been given greater opportunities to influence the game instead of relying on Jordan Ayew, who featured throughout the first half before being substituted.
According to the fans, the team’s attacking play lacked creativity, pace and urgency, making it difficult to break down a disciplined Colombian side.
Mr Abubakar Kwame Moro, a football enthusiast, said the technical team failed to make bold decisions when it mattered most.
“The Black Stars needed speed, aggression and fresh energy. We respect Jordan Ayew for his service to Ghana football, but this was a game that required younger players who could press, create chances and trouble the Colombian defence,” he said.
Another supporter, Mr Emmanuel Agbeko, described the defeat as a painful setback for Ghana football.
“We expected the technical handlers to field players based on current form and fitness levels. The World Cup is not a place for sentiment. Every decision must be based on what gives the team the best chance of winning,” he stated.
Some fans also criticised the overall tactical approach adopted by the Black Stars, claiming that the team appeared too cautious and struggled to impose itself on the match despite enjoying periods of possession.
Others pointed to long-standing issues within Ghana football, including player selection controversies, inadequate preparation and the lack of a clear long-term development strategy.
The Black Stars’ exit has sparked widespread debate across the country, with football analysts and supporters calling for a comprehensive review of the team’s World Cup campaign to identify lessons and rebuild future international competitions.
For many football lovers in Krachi East, the defeat represents not only a missed opportunity but also a reminder of the urgent need to develop young talents capable of restoring Ghana’s status among the world’s football elite.
Despite the Black Stars exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, many football fans expressed support for the team’s coach, Mr Carlos Queiroz, nothing that he had only taken charge of the squad a few days before the tournament.
According to fans, it would be unfair to judge the coach solely based on Ghana’s Round of 32 elimination to Columbia.
