A Kumasi-based businesswoman has been successfully enstooled as the Paramount Queen-mother of the Wenchi Traditional Area in the Bono Region, under the stool name Ohemaa Afoa Pokuaa Dankoto II.
Known in private life as Nana Ama Pokua Dekyi, she succeeded late paramount queen-mother Ohemaa Atoa Ampoforo Twewaa Otonsuo Seramangyedua III, who died in June 2025 after a short illness, rendering the stool vacant for a year
Nana Ameyaw Owusu Ansah Ababio, the Abakomahene (sub-chief) of the Wenchi Traditional Area, and the family head of the Ahenfie Yefiri Royal Family took the newly enstooled queen-mother through traditional rites to seal her enstoolment at a colourful ceremony held at Wenchi.
He urged the newly enstooled queen-mother to serve the people in dignity, humility and diligence, asking her to do more to attract investments to the area.
Osagyefo Ampem Anye Amoampong Tabrako III, the Paramount Chief of the Wenchi Traditional Area, congratulated the queen-mother for going through the traditional rites.
He said he was highly confident in the queen-mother urging her to justify that by serving people well and bringing the development of the traditional area to the next level.
On her part, Ohemaa Dankoto II also expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of the area for their support and the confidence reposed in her, pledging to work in unison with all the people.
She called on the people to bury their differences, forged ahead in unity and collectively spearhead the holistic development of the area.
The Wenchi township turned into a state of joy as the people carried the newly enstooled paramount queen-mother shoulder-high and paraded her through the streets of the town, as tradition demanded, amid dancing and drumming.
