New Juaben South strengthens STEM learning through school quizzes

The New Juaben South Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service has organised inter-circuit quiz competition to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and inspire innovation among basic school children in the municipality.

The competition, held in the eastern regional capital, Koforidua, under the theme, “STEM Today, Innovators of Tomorrow: Building the Future Together,” formed part of efforts to promote critical thinking, problem-solving and interest in science and technology in the six circuits of the education directorate.

Mr James Selorm Agbenyo, the New Juaben South Municipal STEM Coordinator, noted that STEM education equipped learners with the practical knowledge and skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.

He said the approach nurtured critical thinking, creativity, resilience and innovation while preparing young people for emerging opportunities in science, engineering and other modern professions.

Mr Agbenyo appealed to corporate organisations and non-governmental organisations to partner with the government in expanding investment in STEM education.

He said increased funding would support the provision of STEM laboratories, teaching and learning materials, and continuous professional development for teachers to improve science and mathematics instruction.

Such investments, he noted, would enhance learning outcomes and strengthen the quality of education.

Hajia Ruckaiyah Issah, Deputy Director in charge of Finance and Administration at the New Juaben South Municipal Education Directorate, urged students to remain committed to all their subjects.

“Do not relax in other subjects just because you are focusing on STEM,” she said.

She also encouraged parents to support their children’s education by providing essential learning materials, while assuring them that schools would continue to improve teaching and learning resources.

At the end of the competition, Oguaa Circuit emerged the winner, with Adweso Circuit placing second and Nsukwao Circuit finishing third.

The participating students received exercise books in recognition of their participation.
