ASA Savings and Loans renovates Nayagnia CHPS, donates medical supplies

Nayagnia (U/E), Sept. 7, GNA – ASA Savings and Loans Limited, a microfinance and non-bank financial institution, has renovated the Nayagnia Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality.
It also donated medical equipment, including an infrared thermometer, blood pressure monitor, glucometer, Seca weighing scale, liquid soap, surgical gloves, cotton wool, steriliser drum, gauze, nose masks and infusion sets, among other consumables, to support healthcare delivery and improve maternal and child healthcare.
Speaking at a ceremony to hand over the renovated facility, Mr Abdulai Abrahaman, the Navrongo Area Manager of ASA Savings and Loans, said the initiative demonstrated the company’s commitment to supporting the socio-economic development of communities where it operated.
He said although the company had only recently commenced operations in the Navrongo area, it considered it important to contribute to the wellbeing of residents.
“When you are in a particular community, you need to appreciate the community as well. This is the first of this kind we are doing here, and it will not be the last,” he said.
Mr Abrahaman said ASA Savings and Loans, which had operated in Ghana since 2008, currently had 168 offices across all 16 regions.
He stressed that the intervention was not based on the number of customers the company had in the area but was intended to improve the welfare of residents.
He disclosed that the company also planned to support the Nayagnia R/C Primary School as part of its community development initiatives.
“When ASA grows, the community also benefits. If our expansion grows, our helping hands will also become bigger,” he added.
Mr Timothy Abavana, the Nurse-in-Charge of the Nayagnia CHPS Compound, commended ASA Savings and Loans for the renovation of the facility and provision of the medical supplies.
He said the poor condition of the building had previously affected its attractiveness to patients, but the renovation had significantly improved its appearance.
“Previously, the facility itself was just an eyesore. It wasn’t pleasant to our patients, but right now you can see it is pleasing to the eye,” he said.
Mr Abavana said the donated items would help health personnel to provide better services to patients and strengthen maternal and general healthcare delivery.
Mr Stephen Akugri, an Official of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Directorate of Ghana Health Services, described the intervention as timely and beneficial to healthcare delivery in the area.
“The last time I came here, we were thinking about where to get money to paint the facility. I want to thank ASA so much for touching the lives of not only Nayagnia but other communities nearby,” he said.
Mr Akugri assured ASA Savings and Loans that the donated items would be used for their intended purposes to benefit patients and residents of the surrounding communities.
Mr Cornelius Kwogana Abaduri, an Elder of the Nayagnia Chief, thanked ASA Savings and Loans for responding to a long-standing need of the community.
“The development committee of our community had made estimates, and it was not a small amount. We were thinking about how to get the money to fix it, but by the grace of God, ASA has come to solve this problem for us,” he said.
