2028 Olympic Qualifiers: Black Queens hit seven goals past Mauritius to progress

The Black Queens of Ghana produced a commanding performance at the Essipong Sports Stadium, beating Mauritius 7-0 in the second leg of their 2028 Women’s Olympic Football qualifier on Tuesday.

Holding a comfortable 3-0 advantage from the first leg in Mauritius, the Black Queens showed their superiority once again, dominating proceedings to secure a 10-0 aggregate victory and advance to the third round of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers.

Ghana took an early lead in the 10th minute through Evelyn Badu, who finished off a well-worked move to settle any nerves and extend the hosts’ aggregate advantage.

The Black Queens continued to dictate possession and were rewarded with a second goal in the 27th minute when defender Portia Boakye found the back of the net.

Five minutes later, Ajegipina Zakaria added Ghana’s third of the afternoon to put the tie beyond Mauritius’ reach before halftime.

Despite their commanding lead, Coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s side maintained their intensity after the break and continued to pin the visitors in their own half.

Substitute Mukarama Abdulai added Ghana’s fourth goal in the 74th minute before Jennifer Cudjoe got on the scoresheet with three minutes remaining in regulation time.

Nancy Amoh then joined the scoring party in the 90th minute to make it 6-0 before Abdulai completed her brace deep into stoppage time, capping an emphatic victory for the hosts.

Mauritius struggled to cope with Ghana’s relentless attacking play and failed to seriously test Konlan throughout the encounter as the Black Queens cruised to another clean sheet.

The Black Queens would now face either Uganda or Zambia in the third round of the qualifiers as they continue their quest for a maiden appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.
