His Majesty King Mohammed VI has commended the Moroccan people for their collective role in the successful organisation of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), hosted by the Kingdom from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026
In a statement issued by the Royal Office, the King expressed appreciation to national institutions, local authorities and citizens whose efforts ensured the smooth delivery of the month‑long tournament, which earned praise across the continent and internationally.
He specifically acknowledged residents of the host cities for their civic spirit and mobilisation, which contributed to what has been widely described as one of the most accomplished editions in the competition’s history.
The Monarch also saluted the millions of Moroccans who rallied behind the national team, the Atlas Lions, throughout the tournament. Their support, he said, accompanied the team’s strong performance, which has reinforced Morocco’s standing among the world’s top eight football nations.
He attributed this progress to sustained investment in sports development and infrastructure, as well as the commitment of young Moroccan talents from the diaspora who chose to represent the country.
King Mohammed VI noted that beyond football, the success of AFCON 2025 reflects Morocco’s broader development trajectory, driven by a long‑term strategic vision and a model that places citizens at the centre of national priorities.
Touching on the disturbances recorded at the closing moments of the final match between Morocco and Senegal, the King expressed regret over the incidents but emphasised his belief that the spirit of African solidarity would prevail once emotions settle.
He stressed that Morocco’s success as host nation was equally a success for Africa, contributing to the continent’s global image.
The statement further dismissed attempts to undermine the Kingdom’s achievements, with the Monarch expressing confidence in the Moroccan people’s unity and resilience. He reaffirmed that no external hostility could weaken the historic ties connecting African nations or the partnerships Morocco continues to build across the continent.
Reiterating Morocco’s African identity and commitment, the King stated that the country remains steadfast in promoting a united and prosperous Africa, through cooperation, shared expertise and mutual respect.
