The Bank of Ghana (BoG) will host Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Financial Health (UNSGSA), from November 4 to 5, 2026 to discuss Ghana’s progress in financial inclusion and digital finance.
The visit forms part of Queen Máxima’s visit to Ghana and will include a bilateral meeting with Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
A statement issued by the Bank said the meeting would review Ghana’s progress in financial inclusion and digital finance, as well as policy and regulatory priorities for strengthening the financial health of households, workers and small businesses.
It said the Bank of Ghana and Queen Máxima would also co-host a roundtable on financial health, bringing together senior leaders from banks, electronic money issuers, payment service providers, insurers, pension providers, regulators and development partners.
The statement said discussions would cover how Ghana measures financial health and innovation in savings, responsible credit, insurance, pensions and investment.
It said participants would also examine the role of the workplace in supporting employees and opportunities for collective action across the financial sector.
The visit follows discussions between Queen Máxima, the Minister for Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and Dr Asiama at the Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group.
It said financial health featured in those discussions as an important priority for advancing economic resilience and inclusive growth, the Bank of Ghana said.
According to the World Bank’s Global Findex Database 2025, Ghana was among Africa’s leading digital financial inclusion success stories, with 81 per cent of adults holding a financial account.
The country also has strong digital payments infrastructure and a dynamic fintech ecosystem, the statement said.
It said strengthening financial health was the next stage of Ghana’s financial inclusion journey.
The Bank of Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to a safe and inclusive financial system that supported the financial health of all Ghanaians and the growth of the economy.
