Bedeku Assembly Member mobilises support for education, youth projects

Mr Korley Abraham Teye, Assembly Member for the Bedeku Electoral Area in the Ada East District, has announced series of education and youth empowerment interventions aimed at improving learning conditions and livelihoods in the area.

Mr Teye said his intervention followed a visit to the Bedeku Technical Institute last week, where he observed students attending classes under a tree due to inadequate classroom infrastructure.

Describing the situation as distressing, he said he immediately reached out to an unnamed philanthropist to solicit support for the school.

“After discussions, it was agreed that a three-unit classroom pavilion would be constructed to ease congestion, especially for final-year students”, he said.

Mr Teye told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that a total of 234 students are expected to complete their programmes at the institute this year, making the intervention urgent.

He announced that the foundation for the classroom block has commenced with an initial supply of 1,000 cement blocks and some bags of cement to kick-start the project.

The assembly member also disclosed that he had successfully lobbied the Vickeiko Craft Initiative, a private entity, to construct an ultra-modern Information and Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory for Korlekorpe Basic School.

He said discussions had already been held with the school authorities, and land had been made available for the project to begin, adding that the facility would enhance digital literacy and improve teaching and learning outcomes.

Beyond infrastructure, Mr Teye outlined plans to roll out skills training programmes for the youth across the Bedeku Electoral Area to promote entrepreneurship and self-employment.

The proposed training areas include sugar processing, soap making, cosmetic lotion production, hand sanitiser production, beading, fascinator and flower bouquet decoration, make-up artistry, graphic design and branding, China importation, and affiliate marketing.

He said the initiatives were part of a broader vision to empower the youth, reduce unemployment and build sustainable livelihoods within the community.

“Together, we can build a greater Bedeku Electoral Area for future generations,” he said, calling on residents and stakeholders to support development efforts in the area.
