Dr Sa-id Mukhtar Abubakar, Director of S.A.I.D. Academy, has urged Muslims to use Ramadan’s spiritual discipline to promote moral excellence and integrity in Ghanaian society.
He said the primary purpose of fasting was the attainment of Taqwa, or God-consciousness, which must reflect in exemplary conduct in both public and private life.
Speaking at the Hijra Club Ramadan Lectures at the National Mosque Complex Auditorium in Accra, Dr. Abubakar said in a society facing ethical challenges, Muslims had a divine mandate to serve as a moral compass.
He said a Muslim’s spiritual growth was incomplete if it did not translate into honesty in business, excellence in professional service and compassion for the vulnerable.
The lecture, the second in the Hijra Club’s 2026 series, was on the theme: “Attainment of Spiritual Growth and Moral Consciousness in Contemporary Muslim Societies – ‘The Ramadan Factor’.”
It featured a brief history of the organisation by Alhaji Tanko and an interactive session on integrating Islamic ethics into the Ghanaian workplace. Islamic scholars and youth participated in the event.
Dr. Abubakar underscored the need for the fasting period to result in visible behavioural change, demonstrated through honesty, humility, peaceful coexistence and compassion.
“By adhering to the principles of the Quran, he stated, the community can lead by example in the national effort to foster a more disciplined and ethical nation,” he said.
Dr. Abubakar said Ghana’s diverse religious landscape presented Muslims with an opportunity to demonstrate moral leadership, particularly at a time when ethical lapses in public and private life posed challenges to national development.
He moral consciousness was not only a theological obligation but also a civic duty.
Dr. Abubakar described the “Ramadan Factor” as a rigorous training ground for the soul.
He urged participants to ensure that virtues cultivated during the month, including patience, truthfulness and self-control, became enduring traits that contributed to national development.
