Liberian President Boakai in Accra to participate in Next Step Conference

Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr, has arrived in Accra to participate in the High-Level Consultative Conference on the Next Steps to the Landmark United Nations Resolution on the Trafficking of Enslaved Africans.

The Conference slated from the 17th to the 19th of June, 2026, seeks to advance international efforts toward historical recognition, reparatory justice, accountability, and restitution for the enduring consequences of slavery and colonial exploitation.

The Liberian Leader was received at the Jubilee Lounge of the Accra International Airport by Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

President Boakai is expected to join his fellow African leaders, policymakers, scholars, and development partners in advancing discussions on reparatory justice and Africa’s historical and developmental aspirations.

During the two-day conference, President Boakai is expected to deliver a keynote address highlighting Liberia’s perspective on reparatory justice, historical accountability, and pathways toward sustainable development and inclusive growth across the African continent.

The conference brings together African leaders and stakeholders to advance dialogue on justice, restitution, and the continent’s collective future.

In a gesture of friendship and solidarity, particularly as Ghana prepares to take on Panama in its FIFA World Cup match later this Wednesday night, Mr Ablakwa presented President Boakai with an official Ghana national team jersey at the Accra International Airport.
