MCE calls for cooperation on Sunyani road dualisation

Mr Vincent Antwi Agyei, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has directed traders operating along the shoulders of the Sunyani-Abesim and Sunyani-Asufufu roads to vacate to allow contractors to begin expansion works in March.

He said government had approved funding for the dualisation of the SUSEC-Abesim stretch and the Sunyani-Asufufu portion of the Sunyani-Atronie road, and appealed to traders to cooperate by vacating the area by the end of February 2026.

Addressing a news conference in Sunyani, Mr Agyei explained that although an initial 10-day notice was served, the deadline was extended after extensive stakeholder engagement.

He noted that the expansion and dualisation had become necessary due to heavy vehicular traffic congestion on the stretches. The Sunyani-Asufufu project will also cover the Adumako Junction–Watchman section and link the Sunyani Outer Ring Road.

“From Sunyani New Palace, a four-way junction links Baakoniaba, Adumako, and towards Asufufu, Watchman, Atronie and part of the Ahafo enclave,” he stated.

The Assembly has engaged traders and owners of temporary structures, including containers and makeshift stalls, and expects compliance with the directive.

Mr Agyei expressed confidence in the contractors and urged them to expedite work to ensure timely completion of the projects.
