The Ashanti Regional U-17 Football Tournament has received a major boost with telecommunications giant MTN Ghana stepping in as title sponsor ahead of the competition’s grand finale this weekend.
The sponsorship comes at a crucial stage of the tournament, which has, since its inception in September 2025, served as a key platform for identifying and nurturing young football talents across the region.
MTN Ghana’s involvement is expected to enhance the profile of the competition while reinforcing support for grassroots sports development.
As part of its sponsorship package, MTN Ghana is providing jerseys for the four semifinalists, as well as trophies and medals for the eventual winners and outstanding performers.
The initiative aligns with the company’s commitment to youth empowerment and community development through sports.
The tournament, spearheaded by Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has drawn participation from 41 districts, making it one of the most extensive grassroots football competitions in the region.
The participating teams were initially grouped into eight zones, with top performers advancing through the knockout stages.
Following months of competitive matches held across various districts and key venues including Kumasi and Offinso Ahenkro, the competition has now reached its decisive stage.
Four teams – Afigya Kwabre North, Afigya Kwabre South, Atwima Nwabiagya North, and Kwabre East remain in contention for the ultimate prize.
The semifinals and final matches are scheduled for Sunday, April 5, 2026, at Paa Joe Park, where fans are expected to witness high-intensity clashes and emerging football talent at its finest.
MTN Ghana’s support not only strengthens the tournament’s organisation but also contributes significantly to its core objective of unearthing and developing the next generation of football stars in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
