Mr Joseph Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nkwanta South, has been honoured with a top economic leadership award in recognition of his efforts to drive local development and promote Ghana’s 24-hour economy agenda at the grassroots level.
The award, conferred at the Black Star Acclamation Honorary Awards Conference 2025/26, was organised by the World Diplomatic Federation in collaboration with Rectitude International Mission.
Mr Antwi received the distinguished title of “24-Hour Economy Catalyst” for his role in advancing continuous productivity, industrialisation and job creation within the municipality.
Presenting the citation, Professor Joseph Tyler Cuddeford, His Holistic Emeritus Eminent, commended the MCE for translating national economic policy into practical local initiatives.
He noted that Mr Antwi has demonstrated visionary leadership by positioning Nkwanta South as a growing hub for round-the-clock economic activity.
According to him, key interventions under the MCE’s leadership include the provision of land for investment, enhancement of local security systems, and the development of infrastructure to support businesses operating beyond traditional working hours.
He added that the Municipal Assembly has also adopted operational reforms to accommodate a three-shift system, ensuring efficiency and sustainability in line with the 24-hour economy model.
Prof Cuddeford highlighted the importance of peace and stability in economic development, praising the MCE’s efforts to promote unity among various ethnic groups in the area.
He indicated that such initiatives are critical to reversing the decline in local revenue caused by recent disturbances.
He also pointed to ongoing development projects, including market upgrades, improvements in healthcare delivery and road rehabilitation works which are expected to enhance trade and economic activity across the municipality.
In addition, the MCE was applauded for prioritising youth empowerment through agriculture and agro-processing programmes aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities.
Responding to the honour, Mr Antwi expressed appreciation, describing the award as both humbling and a call to greater service.
He reaffirmed his commitment to improving the living standards of residents and pledged to intensify efforts to strengthen the local economy.
He also reiterated his support for the vision of Mr John Dramani Mahama, stressing his resolve to help advance policies that promote productivity and inclusive growth.
The recognition of Mr Antwi is widely seen as a testament to the growing importance of local leadership in driving Ghana’s economic transformation and ensuring sustainable development at the community level.
