Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice-President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate aspirant, has won the Presidential Primary in the Buem Constituency of the Oti Region with a slim margin.
Dr Bawumia polled 228 votes to beat his closest contender, Dr Bryan Acheampong, who secured 208 votes, while Mr Kennedy Ohene Agyapong garnered 89 votes.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum obtained four votes, but Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong did not secure any votes in the constituency.
Out of the expected 563 delegates, 530 cast their ballots, representing a voter turnout of about 94 per cent, with one rejected ballot.
The voting exercise, which formed part of the NPP’s nationwide Presidential Primary, was conducted at designated polling centres across the constituency under tight but orderly security arrangements.
Mr Mathias Komla Bassayi, an Assistant Constituency Secretary of the Party, described the process as calm, peaceful, and transparent, noting that delegates conducted themselves in a disciplined manner throughout the exercise.
He said electoral officials ensured strict adherence to laid-down procedures, while party executives and security personnel worked together to prevent any disturbances.
Some delegates who spoke to the Ghana News Agency expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the polls and called on supporters of all aspirants to unite behind the eventual flagbearer to ensure victory for the Party in the 2028 general elections.
The results from Buem add to outcomes from other constituencies nationwide as the NPP progresses towards the declaration of its Presidential candidate.
