The Avenorpedo Agbeliza Central Planning Committee, in the Akatsi South Municipality of the Volta Region, is set to host the Agbeliza 2026 Football Gala at Avenorpedo.
The cultural and sporting festival is expected to bring together sixteen football clubs and residents from across the Avenorpedo, Abor, Akatsi and the surrounding communities.
Mr Reuben Dorkenu, the Central Planning Committee Secretary, stated that, the gala, scheduled to take place from, August 24 through to August 31, would be held at the Avenorpedo Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) basic School Park, which would form part of activities lined up for this year’s Agbeliza festival.
” Sixteen clubs have signed up to compete in this year’s football gala; they are drawn from various communities within and around Avenorpedo,” he said.
He explained that the participating clubs would include the Wonders FC (Afife), Weme Great United (Weme), Letsiwofedo Young Stars, Kutsidzi Young Stars (Abor), Iron Breakers (Agordeke), Islanders FC (Anyako), Napado XI (Avenorpedo), and Star Wins FC (Abor).
Other teams billed to grace the competition were the Soccer Stars (Xavi), Black Eagles (Atidzive), Red Scorpion (Tsiame), Wonders Hosters (Suife), Mawuli FC (Atsukorfe), Afenyo FC (Have), Squad FC (Afife) and Tragic FC (Avenorpedo).
“Beyond the football competition, we have lined up a number of side attractions to enrich the week-long festival, including an artistes’ night that will feature performances from renowned musical groups and personalities,” Mr Dorkenu said.
He said that among the artistes expected to thrill patrons at the concert are the Kpese Boy, a popular local musician, as well as Morgan Narow, winner of the 2026 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) Unsung Artiste of the Year category, among others with notable Disc Jockers (DJs) for the events.
The organisers further said the artistes’ night, together with performances from other acts, is expected to draw large crowds to add colour to the Agbeliza celebrations, giving patrons an opportunity to unwind after the day’s football action.
In addition to the football and musical activities, a beauty pageant would also be held as part of the festival, with organisers describing it as another key attraction meant to showcase the talent and elegance of young women within the Avenorpedo Agbeliza community.
The Central Planning Committee also expressed optimism that the combination of football, music and the beauty pageant among others, would make this year’s Agbeliza celebration one of the most memorable in recent times, to draw patrons from within and outside the region.
Organisers have since appealed to indigenes, well-wishers, corporate bodies and sports enthusiasts to support the event and troop out in their numbers to witness the various activities lined up for the week.
Preparations for the Agbeliza 2026 Football Gala are reported to be far advanced, with the Avenorpedo E.P. School Park being readied to host the matches and other accompanying programmes throughout the duration of the festival.
