Tema GTA celebrates National Chocolate Week with Community Two cell inmates

The Tema Regional Office of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has marked the 2026 National Chocolate Day celebration with the inmates of the Tema Community Two Police Station.

The gesture forms part of activities to commemorate the annual celebration which is aimed at promoting the consumption of Ghana-made chocolate while encouraging acts of love and compassion.

Mr Isaac Asiam, Tema Regional Manager of the GTA, speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the presentation, said the initiative was to express love to the inmates who were less fortunate and currently being held behind bars.

Mr Asiam noted that the National Chocolate Day was a time when people across the world showed affection to loved ones, adding that it was equally important to remember vulnerable persons in society, including those in Police custody.

“Some people do not have families or loved ones visiting them at this time; therefore, as an authority, we felt it was very necessary to reach out and let them know they are remembered and cared for,” he noted.

According to him, chocolate had several health benefits, including boosting mood and providing energy, which, he said, would be beneficial to the inmates.

Mr Asiam noted that GTA remained committed to promoting Ghanaian brands, particularly cocoa and chocolate products, to the global community, stressing that sharing chocolate with the cell inmates was a step in the right direction.

He emphasised that Ghana was the home of premium cocoa and that promoting the consumption of chocolate locally and using it as a tool for social impact aligns with the broader mandate of tourism development and brand Ghana promotion.

The GNA observed that about 15 inmates, including females, at the station received chocolate and assorted drinks whilst in Police custody as Ghana marked the 2026 National Chocolate Day celebrations.

National Chocolate Day is celebrated annually in Ghana on February 14, coinciding with the Valentine’s Day celebration to promote the consumption of locally produced chocolate and to highlight the importance of the cocoa sector to the national economy.
