Mrs Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, Eastern Regional Minister, has urged the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Women’s Fellowship to leverage its nationwide influence to promote peace, responsible parenting and youth development amid the rising social and moral challenges in the country.

She made the call at the 64th National Delegates Conference of the Fellowship held at Mount Mary College of Education in Somanya.

The conference, on the theme: “Celebrating Our Heritage: Building on the Foundation Already Laid, Sustaining the Gains as a Woman,” brought together members of the Women’s Fellowship, congregants of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, traditional leaders and other invited guests.

Addressing participants, Mrs Awatey said faith-based women’s organisations remained indispensable partners in promoting discipline within families and building resilient communities.

She noted that the Fellowship’s contribution extended beyond religious activities, adding that its work in moral formation, family support and community service complemented government efforts to build a stable and productive society.

The Minister observed that weakening family structures, youth delinquency and declining moral values had made the role of Christian women more important than ever.

She reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for women and faith-based organisations to contribute meaningfully to local development, particularly in the areas of education, health, agriculture and trade.

Mrs Awatey also commended the Presbyterian Church of Ghana for its historic investment in education, healthcare and social services, many of which continue to serve communities across the Eastern region and the country as a whole.

Reverend Abraham Djaba Okai, Chairperson of the Dangme-Tongu Presbytery, said the Church must remain steadfast in preserving its Christian heritage despite the growing influence of secularism.

He urged members to build on the strong foundation laid by previous generations while remaining committed to their faith and service to society.

Rev. Andrew Shardow, National Director of Church Life and Nurture, commended the women for their dedication to nurturing the core values of the Church.

He described their contribution as vital to the spiritual, moral and social development of families and communities.
