Africa must prioritise inclusive, responsive 21st century education – Iddrisu

Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education, has urged African governments to build quality, equity‑indexed education systems that are innovative, inclusive and responsive to 21st‑century demands.

He said education across the continent must evolve in response to the global technological age.

Mr Iddrisu made the remarks in a speech read on his behalf by Professor George K.T. Oduro, Technical Adviser, at the 4th Africa Education Summit, Ghana 2026, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

The event, organised by the Global Skills Hub United Kingdom, was on the theme “Advancing Edtech Integration in African Education: A Unified Roadmap for Action.”

Mr. Iddrisu said education remained the foundation of national development as digital technologies continued to reshape societies and economies.

“It follows, therefore, that education systems across Africa cannot afford to remain detached from technological progress,” he said.

The Minister said education technology should serve as a powerful instrument for expanding opportunity to every child, irrespective of geographical location or socio‑economic circumstances.

He noted that Ghana’s education sector had in recent years recorded progress in integrating technology through coordinated digital initiatives and continued to pursue an ambitious agenda to position educational technology at the centre of national transformation.

Mr Honey Olawale, Director of Global Skills Hub, commended Mr Iddrisu for his leadership in championing Ghana’s educational transformation.

He said enhancing technological development in education was not only about increasing access to tools and devices but ensuring real impact on learners.

Mr Olawale called for stronger collaboration among education stakeholders across Africa, urging them to combine competences to address educational and technological challenges facing the continent.
