Family of aircraft victims acknowledges their valiant act

The family of the late Captain Frank Amoaning Donkor and Elijah Ofori Donkor, the victims of the recent microlight aircraft crash, has paid tribute to victims, describing their final moments as a valiant act that helped save lives.

Apostle Martin Larbi, a retired minister of the Church of Pentecost and grandfather of the deceased, made this statement during an appreciation ceremony held in their honour at the crash premises in Tema.

Apostle Larbi said, although the loss was devastating, the family took solace in the belief that the actions of the victims prevented greater casualties within the surrounding community.

“We are extremely grateful to God that it was only my grandchildren; the pilot and his brother, who lost their lives in order to save those nearby,” he said.

He noted that while the incident was an unexpected tragedy, the family viewed it through a lens of faith, believing that God’s will would ultimately bring purpose to the loss for both the family and the nation.

Apostle Larbi expressed appreciation to the security services, particularly the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the Ghana Police Service, for their swift response and professionalism in securing the area and protecting residents.

He also commended staff of the TMA Daycare Centre for their prompt action in ensuring the safe evacuation of pupils, which he said helped to avoid further casualties.

Apostle Larbi further thanked the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) for its support and logistical assistance in organising the solemn ceremony and President John Dramani Mahama for his personal commitment to the family during the difficult period, particularly in relation to burial arrangements.

He also expressed hope that such a tragedy would not recur and offered prayers for the pupils and others affected by the incident.
