Students of the Applied Technology Institute at East Legon have successfully assembled a fully functional bicycle.
The project, undertaken in partnership with Trans‑Sahara Industries, showcased the students’ technical competence and innovation within Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Education, after receiving a delegation from the TVET Service which presented the bicycle, said the initiative reflected the sector’s progress in equipping learners with practical and industry‑ready skills.
It said the achievement highlighted a shift towards a production‑oriented learning approach that aligned education with industry needs, while showcasing the ingenuity and potential of TVET students.
The statement said Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education, reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to advancing technical and vocational education through investments in infrastructure, curriculum development and strengthened collaboration with industry.
He noted that such practical accomplishments demonstrated the role of TVET in promoting job creation, entrepreneurship, and national development.
The statement said that the success of the students illustrated what could be achieved when young people were provided with the requisite skills, tools and industry support, as Ghana repositioned TVET as a competitive career pathway.
It said stakeholders in the education sector had welcomed the initiative and called for increased investment to expand similar opportunities for students to gain hands‑on experience.
