Kuoro Kpiamouri Jebuni Poku III, the Divisional Chief of the Duu in the Sissala East Municipality, has appealed to the government, investors and development partners to support the growth of the area.
He said adequate investments in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, roads and telecommunications networks within his traditional jurisdiction could significantly enhance the development of the area.
Speaking during his coronation and anniversary celebration, Kuoro Poku emphasised the enormous agricultural potential of Duu, which investors could take advantage of.
“Investors are encouraged to come to Duu because we have arable land in Duu and its environs. We thank Farmer Pride, Cisse Farms, and all individuals investing in Duu through farming, “ he stated.
Kuoro Poku also used the occasion to address critical challenges confronting youth, particularly drug abuse and rising crime rates.
According to him, the growing abuse of illicit substances among young people has contributed to indiscipline in schools, violence, unemployment, and insecurity within communities.
“The abuse of drugs by the youth should not be left in the hands of law enforcement agencies alone. It is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders,” Kuoro Poku said.
The chief further appealed to the Sissala East Assembly to establish rehabilitation and counselling centres and the health system to support victims of drug abuse in the area.
On environmental protection, Kuoro Poku praised efforts to preserve economic trees, particularly the African rosewood species, which had been massively destroyed in Northern Ghana.
He reiterated that the ban on the cutting and transportation of rosewood remained in force and warned that offenders would face the full rigours of the law.
On infrastructure, Kuoro Poku lamented the poor state of roads in the area and appealed to the government and contractors to expedite work on ongoing road projects.
He expressed gratitude to the President John Dramani Mahama-led government for initiating major road construction works in the area.
He noted that the residents of the area were hopeful the projects would transform transportation and economic activities.
Kuoro Poku also indicated that improved telecommunications services in the area would greatly facilitate the development of the area.
The revered chief observed that his traditional Jurisdiction was among the few areas without a health facility.
He, therefore, appealed to the government and the district assembly to establish at least a health centre to serve the growing population in the area.
Kuoro Poku expressed concerns about the lack of market for farm produce, particularly maize and soybeans and appealed to the government to release more funds to offtake the produce to enable the farmers to benefit from their hardwork.
