Alhaji Misbahu Adams Mahama, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mion Constituency in the Northern Region has inaugurated three mechanized boreholes and presented livelihood support items to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in the Mion District.

The initiative was targeted at improving access to potable water and promoting inclusive development in the area.

The MP, accompanied by Mr Azindow Hamzah Moabalyn, Mion District Chief Executive, inaugurated the boreholes at DC Kura, Sang and Jimli.

The borehole project, which began in October 2025 are expected to provide safe and reliable drinking water to the beneficiary communities and reduce the burden on women and children, who traveled long distances in search of water.

As part of the day’s activities, Alhaji Mahama also presented livelihood support items to selected PwDs through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development of the Mion District Assembly to enhance its self-reliance and economic empowerment.

The items included grinding mill machines, welding machines, deep freezers, television sets, livestock, cash support, and inputs for small-scale enterprises such as soap making.

Alhaji Mahama, speaking at the presentation ceremony, said the interventions formed part of his commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable groups in the constituency.

He noted that empowering PwDs with productive assets was a sustainable approach to poverty reduction as it enabled beneficiaries to generate income and live dignified lives.

He said “Our aim is to ensure that development reaches every segment of society. When persons living with disabilities are supported to become economically active, it strengthens families and communities.”

He assured his constituents of collaborating with key stakeholders and development partners to ensure that more projects were implemented in the area to facilitate its overall development.

Mr Moabalyn, for his part, described the interventions as timely and consistent with the district’s overall development agenda.

He said access to potable water and livelihood empowerment was key priorities of the Assembly, adding that the inauguration of the boreholes demonstrated government’s commitment to improving living conditions in rural communities.

Beneficiaries of the support expressed appreciation to the MP for assistance and pledged to make good use of the items to improve their livelihoods.

Some of them described the gesture as life-changing and appealed for sustained support for vulnerable groups in the district.
