St Anselm’s CYDC celebrates 10th anniversary, urges gov’t TVET support

The St Anselm’s Anglican Child and Youth Development Center (CYDC) of the Sunyani Anglican Diocese has climaxed its 10th anniversary, with a call on the government include the center in its Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) education.
According to Mr Duodu Bimpong, the Director, the Center had 260 children, saying that many of them were now undergoing employable skills training in dressmaking, hairdressing, pastries and arts work, tiling and barbering.

He appealed to the government and development partners for support towards accelerating the training of the children.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a durbar to climax the 10th anniversary celebration of the Center in Sunyani, Mr Bimpong said the center required TVET laboratory and industrial machines.
The event was attended by the clergy, chiefs and queens, civil society organisations, families, students and representatives from government Agencies and Departments.
Mr Bimpong stressed that many of the school children at the center had shown the interest to engage in employable skills training, however inadequate machines and lack of workshops remained a daunting challenge in facilitating their training.
He noted that TVET education could create ready jobs for the trainees and thereby make them self-reliant and financially independent after their training, saying that the center also required support towards the construction of an ICT lab for the learners.
Mr Bimpong said the Sunyani Anglican Diocese in partnership with Compassion International, a NGO established the center to care for and give a meaningful life to the vulnerable and the less privileged in society.

He expressed appreciation to the diocese and the NGO for their continuous support towards the upbringing and development of the children and appealed for more support.
The Right Reverend Dr Festus Yeboah Asuamah, the Anglican Bishop of the Sunyani Diocese also told the GNA that TVET education had huge prospects for the nation and called on the government to support the center to train the children.
Some of the trainees expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Center for the opportunity to learn the employable skills training and to build a secured future for them.
