Teachers boycott classes as student invoke curses on Kobedi AME Zion School

Teachers at the Kobedi AME Zion Primary and Junior High School in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region have boycotted classes indefinitely, since Monday May 18, 2026.

The boycott has left the school children roaming in the town.
During a visit to Kobedi, near Chiraa, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) learnt from the community members that the action of the teachers followed the sudden deaths of the late Madam Glady Dorlo Batinge, the school’s head teacher, and another teacher.
At around 0900 hours, the GNA noticed that all the classrooms were locked with padlocks, and no teacher nor pupil was sighted at the school’s compound.
Some families who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity said that the demise of the teachers happened after a student invoked curses on the school authority for allegedly extorting money from them.
Their deaths had allegedly been linked to the curses.

One of the community members said: “The local deity isn’t tolerable once a curse is invoked,” adding that, “We are reliably informed that teachers have resolved to boycott classes and to register their displeasure about the present happenings in the school.”
A teacher of the school, however, confirmed that the teachers had taken the collective decision to boycott classes until the curse was revoked.
