Torgbui Satsi III, Chief of Adzonkor in the Agortime-Ziope District of the Volta region, has appealed to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations to expand mobile network coverage along the Ziope–Wute corridor.
The appeal follows persistent lack of telecommunications and internet services across several farming communities situated along the approximately 45-kilometre stretch.
In a letter addressed to the sector minister and sighted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the Chief indicated that more than 100 communities, including Adzonkor, Agbedor Kofe, Keyime, Klokpevia, Gorni Kofe and Tetemale, remained cut off from reliable network access.
He said the situation continued to negatively affect socio-economic development, limiting access to quality education, healthcare delivery, and efficient business operations within the area.
Torgbui Satsi III noted that students in the affected communities were unable to fully benefit from digital learning platforms, while health workers faced challenges in responding promptly to emergencies due to the lack of communication infrastructure.
He added that farmers and traders were also unable to access market information and mobile financial services, thereby affecting their incomes and livelihoods.
“I respectfully request your urgent intervention to assess and establish a communication tower or network infrastructure along this corridor, ensuring that these communities gain equal access to digital connectivity,” the Chief stated.
Some residents who spoke to the GNA corroborated the concerns, describing how they often travel long distances to access mobile signals to make calls or use internet services.
Madam Cecilia Gbogbo, a farmer at Agbedor Kofe, said the absence of network connectivity hindered her ability to communicate with buyers and access mobile money services.
Madam Akosua Dede, a trader at Klokpevia, also appealed for swift action, noting that improved network access would boost economic activities and enhance security in the area.
The residents expressed hope that the Ministry would prioritise the request as part of efforts to bridge the digital divide between rural and urban communities.
The call aligns with the government’s broader digitalisation agenda aimed at expanding connectivity and promoting inclusive development across the country.
