Reset Agenda: Tourism Ministry engages board chairpersons to strengthen collaboration

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (MoTCCA) has called for stronger collaboration among its agencies to ensure effective delivery and alignment with President John Mahama’s Reset Agenda.

Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister, said although tourism, culture and creative arts could function independently, they were deliberately combined to maximise their collective impact.

She made the call at a training and orientation session for board chairpersons of agencies under the Ministry, aimed at reviewing progress, strengthening institutional cooperation and deepening understanding of public service procedures.

Madam Gomashie said the Ministry worked with 13 agencies and explained that following an initial orientation for chief executives, it was necessary to engage board chairpersons to assess alignment with national priorities and identify areas for improvement.

“The CEOs manage the institutions, but the boards provide policy direction, so it is important that board chairpersons also understand the President’s vision,” she said.

The Minister noted that political appointments often brought together individuals from diverse professional backgrounds, making familiarity with public service systems essential to avoid operational challenges.

She said the engagement would also help board chairpersons appreciate overlapping mandates among agencies such as the National Commission on Culture, the Creative Arts Agency and the National Theatre, to promote cooperation rather than competition.

Madam Gomashie urged the board chairpersons to work strictly within their legal mandates and leverage their expertise and networks to mobilise additional resources to complement government funding.

Mr Joseph Kwasi Amoah, Chief Director of the Ministry, said the session was a capacity-building initiative to equip board chairpersons with the skills required to effectively perform their roles and support the government’s Reset Agenda.

“Many of you bring a wealth of experience from different fields, but working in the public service presents unique challenges, making programmes like this necessary,” he said, and urged participants to take full advantage of the session to justify the time, energy and financial resources committed to its organisation.
