GAF conducts search and rescue operation at sea after attack on fishing vessels

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has launched a search and rescue operation at sea following an attack on some fishing vessels in the general waters off the coast of Senya Beraku in the Central Region.

A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, GAF, said the operation was being conducted by the Ghana Navy with support from the Ghana Air Force.

It commenced at dawn and was taking place approximately 35 nautical miles off the coast of Senya Beraku, the statement said.

The action follows reports of an attack on some fishing vessels operating in the area.

It said the search and rescue operation was ongoing and appealed to the public to remain calm as efforts were being intensified to address the situation.

Further details would be communicated in due course, the statement assured.
