Madam Thywill Eyra Kpe, The Volta Regional Director of Gender, has called on women to owe it a responsibility of raising their children without any form of discrimination.
She said irrespective of the condition of a child, mothers could not discriminate against them but had the responsibility to show love, affection and provide a conducive environment for the nurturing, growth and development of the children birthed.
Madam Kpe speaking to the media at the beginning of a 3-day programme organised by the Paramount Queen of Alavanyo in partnership with the Alavanyo Traditional Queens for this year’s Mother’s Day Celebration, disclosed that mothers must also serve as role models.
She said whatever mothers taught their children through actions and behaviours were picked knowingly or unknowingly hence the need for the mothers to better models especially for their daughters while raising their male children into men they desired their daughters to marry.
Madam Kpe said “if we want men who will support women and not be violent, we need our mothers to raise such men for society. Gender-responsive children with boys who are sensitive to the needs of their sisters and create the home environment where the children can all grow, thrive and fulfil their mutual roles.”
She said mothers and women at large had the right to healthcare especially sexual and reproductive health and they must ensure that nobody denied them the right to also be economically empowered and contribute to societal development.
Mamaga Ametor Hoebuadzu II, Paramount Queen, Alavanyo Traditional Area, said the programme was organised to reflect on a vital truth since no community could develop in peace without the active involvement of women who remained the backbone of the home and the heartbeat of the community.
She said the programme further created the environment to champion love, unity peace and togetherness among women of all the divisions in the traditional area and also offering a platform for the women to help train the future generations, how to care for the Ghanaian currency and also resolve issues at home.
Mamaga Ametor said a peaceful home was not built by chance but intention hence the need for women to create a loving and respectful environment, teach discipline and values to children, support their partners and families and also be examples of integrity and patience.
She admonished the women to know that roles were not small but powerful and essential since they were peacemakers, builders, managers and leaders who should rise handle finances wisely, and build strong, united families.
Togbe Komla Kunde V, Chief of Abehenease, urged the women to embrace measures and attitudes that promoted peace since peaceful environment and coexistence were requisite for development and growth.
Reverend Victor Etornam Akpi, Disitrict Pastor, Alavanyo District of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), noted that forgiveness, peace and unity brought development hence the women must champion them while urging them to exercise patience in handling situations that they faced.
