The Denkyirahene, Odeefo Boa Amponsem VI, has announced plans to celebrate the Odwira Festival next year, following efforts to resolve disputes within the Denkyira Traditional Area.

He said the celebration would mark an important step towards restoring unity, peace and cultural cohesion within the Area.

The Denkyirahene made the announcement at the sixth Akwasidae celebration, where he called on traditional leaders and the people to work together to preserve the dignity and heritage of the Denkyira Kingdom.

The celebration of Odwira by the people of Denkyira was halted for a about a decade after the demise of Odeefo Boa Amponsem III.

He explained that the decision to revive the Odwira Festival had become possible after the Council’s steps to settle outstanding disputes that had affected the unity and progress of the traditional area.

Odeefo Boa Amponsem said the resolution of the disputes would provide the necessary foundation for the traditional council to focus on development and the promotion of the cultural values of the Denkyira people.

He urged all stakeholders, including divisional chiefs, queenmothers, opinion leaders and residents, to put aside their differences and support efforts to strengthen peace and unity in the Kingdom.

The Denkyirahene said the Odwira Festival would provide an opportunity for the people of Denkyira, both at home and abroad to reconnect with their heritage, celebrate their history and contribute to the development of the traditional area.

He therefore appealed to the people to support the traditional council in making the planned festival a success.

The Akwasidae celebration brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, government representatives and residents to celebrate Denkyira’s rich cultural heritage and reaffirm their commitment to peace and development.

The festival also provided an avenue for the traditional council to deliberate on matters affecting the development and unity of the Denkyira Traditional Area.
