Akatsi North NPP mourns Dr Prince Sodoke Amuzu

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akatsi North Constituency has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dr Prince Sodoke Amuzu, a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Akatsi North District Assembly.

Dr Amuzu, who served as DCE from May 2017 to November 2021, was credited with spearheading development initiatives in road infrastructure, education, healthcare and local economic development across the district.

In a press release signed by Mr Alex Mensah Adenyo, the Constituency Secretary, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, the party said Dr Amuzu passed away on April 22, 2026, describing his death as a painful loss to the party, the people of Akatsi North and the nation.

The release described him as a selfless and visionary leader whose humility, accessibility and commitment to grassroots development earned him widespread respect.

Beyond politics, Dr Amuzu was a renowned medical laboratory scientist and consultant in private practice, distinguished for his contributions to the profession.

He was a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Sciences and a former President of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists.

Dr Amuzu also served as Chairman of the Council of Allied Health Presidents and as a member of the Allied Health Professions Council, where he contributed to policy and regulatory development in Ghana’s health sector.

He was a member of the Governing Board of the Allied Health Professions Council under the Ministry of Health and the Governing Board of the Ho Teaching Hospital, and served on several academic and professional committees locally and internationally.

At the international level, Dr Amuzu served on expert committees of the West African Health Organisation, contributing to the harmonisation of medical laboratory science curricula and professional ethics, and also supported initiatives of the International Federation of Biomedical Laboratory Science.

He was a member of the technical review committee for Ghana’s National Health Laboratory Policies in 2016 and played an advocacy role in the passage of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Law, Act 857 of 2013.

In academia, he served as a faculty advisor at Koforidua Technical University and was affiliated with the Rutland Institute for Ethics at Clemson University in the United States.

As a business professional, Dr Amuzu was among the first directors of MDS-Lancet Laboratories Limited, served as Managing Consultant to EcoMed Advanced Diagnostics Limited in Sierra Leone, and acted as a Key Opinion Leader for Becton Dickinson in West Africa.

He held a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science degree from the University for Development Studies, a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, an MBA in Finance from Central University, and an Executive Certificate in Good Corporate Governance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration.

The constituency executives and party members extended their condolences to his wife, children, family and the people of Akatsi North, and called on the public to join in mourning him.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
