Fire razes four houses at Kparekpare Abongo, destroys wedding trousseau

Some four houses in the Fulani community at Kparekpare Abongo in Krachi East Municipality were destroyed by fire on Sunday evening after strong winds allegedly spread the flames, destroying property and wedding items prepared for three women.

A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to the community revealed charred structures and burnt household items scattered across the compound.

Women, children, and other residents were seen standing around the remains of the affected homes.

Residents said the fire consumed their clothing, cooking utensils, mattresses, bags, and several other personal belongings stored in the four houses ahead of a marriage ceremony.

Speaking to GNA, they explained that the blaze also destroyed wedding trousseaux prepared for the three women.

Madam Jemila Isah and Madam Khadija Sani appealed to the government and international organisations to urgently support the affected families with relief items and other assistance.

Mr Mohammed Bello told the GNA that the men in the community were away in the bush grazing cattle when the incident occurred.

He expressed concern over the extent of the destruction and joined calls for immediate intervention from the authorities.

Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to be officially established, residents believe strong winds intensified and spread flames from open firewood fire set in the house in the community.
