Successful candidates at the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) are busily checking on their placement to Senior High Schools (SHS) and Technical, Vocational Education and Training institutions and admission status in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.
A visit by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) to some Junior High Schools (JHS) in the Kadjebi township and interactions with headmasters showed that the process had so far been largely smooth, with school authorities assisting candidates to check their placement status and complete admission processes.
Ms. Gifty Obeng, the Headmistress of Kadjebi E.P. Central JHS, told the GNA that she assisted 10 prospective SHS students to check their placement and admission status and complete the necessary forms on September 07, 2026.
She said the process had been smooth, with no major challenges recorded so far.
Mr. Francis Norgbedzi, the Headmaster of Kadjebi R.C. JHS, said he also assisted 12 candidates on September 07 to check their placement and admission status.
He, however, said some candidates were not automatically placed and were awaiting the opening of the self-placement portal to enable them to select schools.
“Some learners were not automatically placed, so we are waiting for the self-placement portal to open so that we can assist them as well,” he said.
Mr. Norgbedzi appealed to the authorities to open the self-placement portal early to give unplaced candidates adequate time to select schools before the reopening of schools scheduled for September 18.
At the Kadjebi D/A “A” JHS, Alhaji Abdul Latif, a parent, told the GNA that he had sought the assistance of the school authorities after his ward encountered a problem with his date of birth, which had affected his placement.
He said he approached the Headmaster, Mr John Ofori-Abrokwah, for assistance to rectify the anomaly.
Mr. Ofori-Abrokwah assured him that the school would assist in resolving the issue to enable the candidate to complete the placement process.
Mr. Samuel Drah, the Headmaster of Kadjebi E.P. JHS, said he had assisted 10 prospective SHS students to check their placement status and complete their admission forms the previous day.
He described the process as smooth and said, although the performance of the candidates was not as good as expected, all his candidates had been placed in SHS.
Mr. Drah said the 2026 BECE results and the subsequent placement process provided an indication of the academic performance of candidates and would help schools and parents to better understand the strengths and areas requiring improvement among learners.
He urged parents and guardians whose wards had not yet been placed or had encountered challenges with their placement details to liaise with their respective schools for assistance.
The 2026 BECE candidates are expected to report to their respective second-cycle institutions as the new academic year approaches, making timely resolution of placement and admission challenges important to ensure a smooth transition from basic to second-cycle education.
